Tim Bedford Biography
I am a teacher, researcher and an educational activist. Currently I live in Oulu, Finland and work at Oulu University and Oulu Upper Secondary School (Oulun Lyseon Lukio). I have over 20 years experience teaching economics, theory of knowledge and mathematics in England, Kenya, Japan and Finland. I am a specialist in education for sustainable development economics and globalisation.
I also have many years of experience in distance education, including web-based technologies and synchronous teaching via whiteboard and videoconferencing. I have taught courses for pre-service teachers on educational equity issues as well as development economics theory and practice. I have also directed several international in-service teacher education projects in Europe and East Asia.
My main research interests are critical action research, transformative pedagogy and teacher empowerment to promote educational equity in schools. I have an M.A. in Economics from Churchill College, Cambridge University and Ph.D in Educational Sciences from Oulu University.
I enjoy sports including tennis and soccer and am also a keen artist. I have travelled extensively throughout the world in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia and acquired knowledge of the following languages: Japanese, French, German, Thai and Finnish.
