TESI - Transformative Education for Sustainability Institute

The Transformative Education for Sustainability Institute was established by Dr. Tim Bedford in Oulu, Finland, and focuses on 4 main areas of Education for Sustainability:
  • Training of teachers as school-based sustainability change agents
  • Teacher education and sustainable schools
  • Action research on Education for Sustainability
  • Educational consultancy and project development for sustainable schools
Examples of work so far undertaken in these areas include:
  • Teacher training on educational equity and diversity (East Asia 1990-1995)
  • Teacher education and curriculum development (Sri Lanka 2002)
  • Web-based learning tools for international collobaration on sustainable development education (Nepal 2009-2010)
  • Distance education and ICT pedagogy for sustainability education (Finland on-going)
  • Transformative Education for Gross National Happiness: A Teacher Action Research Project with the Royal Education Council (Bhutan on-going)
In 2012 Courses on Education for Sustainable Development are offered in Oulu by a partner organisation:  Communication Matters
